Advocating effective Human Wildlife Conflict in the Sikkim and Darjeeling Himalaya - WWF-India

Following our work in Singalila National Park, and the work of WWF-India in Sikkim on issues of HWC, annual crop loss was found to be as high as 60% in the region.  Recognising the need for a common approach, this project was undertaken in order to develop and promote policies for management of HWC in the Darjeeling and Sikkim Himalaya.

Following review of literature and data, we are engaging with communities further on this topic. We are working with farmers to gather baseline data on HWC and damages at a family level and conducting community consultations to deepen our understanding of this issue, and of existing management initiatives.

We are working on a comprehensive report that combines community data with policy analysis to support our advocacy efforts for effective HWC in the region.
